Fence Lizard

an Eastern Fence Lizard

Eastern Fence Lizard

I saw this Eastern Fence Lizard (Sceloporus undulatus) lookiing at me across a twig.

When it became convinced that I was not a danger it continued on to sprawl out on a rock. I happened to photograph it while this ant was crossing the lizard’s tail.

Eastern Fence lizards are also called Fence Swifts. If you encounter one in the woods, it will usually climb up a tree trunk to escape. If you try to circle around the tree to get a look at the lizard, it will move around so that it stays on the opposite side of the tree from you..
