Someone told me they had seen a whale in the lake behind our house! A whale?
I patiently explained to them that whales are marine creatures, and the lake in question is, of course, fresh water. We are in the middle of Georgia after all. Besides, the lake is much too small to host a whale, even if it were salt water.
However, to humor them, I went down to the lake and took a look out over the lake from our boat dock.
As I expected, I didn’t see a thing. What can one do with wild stories like the one I was told?
